The ACT (Australian Capital Territory) government uses the Canberra Matrix to manage the nomination process fairly to select applicants who will best contribute to the economy of the Canberra region.
The Department of Home Affairs allows ACT to nominate a fixed number of applicants each year. The Canberra Matrix is weighted to ensure that applicants who will make/have made a positive economic contribution to the Territory and/or have demonstrated a genuine commitment to the ACT are more likely to be ranked and invited to apply for ACT nomination. ACT will rank your Matrix based on the number of points you’ve claimed.
ACT nominates those who rank high enough and invite them to apply for ACT nomination for a 491 or 190 visa.
Canberra Matrix Calculator is a merit-based assessment tool that is based on your points for the length of ACT residence, occupation mentioned in the ACT occupation list, employment, English proficiency, years of study, your academic achievement, investment in the ACT, and close family living in Canberra. Canberra Matrix score is not only for onshore applicants but is also for offshore applicants who want to contribute to the ACT economy.
- You will receive 15 additional points if you are invited for a Skilled Work Regional subclass 491 visa.
- You will receive 5 additional points if you are invited for Skill nominated subclass 190 visa.
Please note the ACT Matrix points calculator is different from the PR points calculator used by the Department of Home Affairs.
